The City of Dryden is seeking a self-motivated, dedicated and proactive Health and Safety Coordinator to join our Human Resources Department. Under the direction of the Director of Human Resources, the Health and Safety Coordinator will work closely with the management team to implement the City’s safety programs, comply with regulatory requirements and identify opportunities for improvement.
Key responsibilities include supporting the development, implementation and maintenance of health and safety policies, procedures and standard operating guidelines. Regularly conduct site inspections and safety audits to identify hazards, assess risks, and ensure corrective actions are taken. Coordinate Health & Safety programs including the coordination of workplace inspections, joint health and safety committees and the development, delivery and evaluation of health and safety training programs and initiatives. This position will also provide guidance and training to staff on safety practices and emergency procedures. Investigate workplace incidents, near misses, and safety violations, and prepare reports with recommendations for corrective actions. Stay informed about industry regulations, trends and best practices.
Position Requirements:
- Degree or diploma in occupational health and safety or related field.
- Certification in Occupational Health and Safety (eg. Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP), Certified Health and Safety Professional (CHSP) or equivalent) considered an asset.
- Proven experience in health and safety program delivery and management.
- Experience in the municipal sector or otherwise with a focus on road construction, earthworks, heavy equipment operations, and building construction/maintenance, ensuring compliance with safety regulations, hazard assessments, and implementing effective risk mitigation strategies to create a safe work environment for all municipal staff and contractors will be considered a strong asset.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the Occupational Health & Safety Act (OHSA), WHMIS, and other relevant standards.
- Strong leadership skills along with well-developed analytical, critical thinking, and decision-making skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with employees and management.
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills, with a high attention to detail.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office suite.
- Valid Class “G” driver’s license.
- Must provide a clean criminal record check and driver’s abstract at applicant’s expense prior to start date.
$75,192.00 - $88,462.40 based on qualifications, education and experience. The City of Dryden offers a comprehensive benefit package as per City policy.
