Location: Water/Wastewater Treatment PlantsReports to:   Utilities & Environmental Services Manager
Status: TERM- Permanent Full-Time- 40.00 hours per week for approximately six (6) months or return of incumbent.
Wage: Current rate of pay for the first thirty (30) days worked, then increasing to $33.72/hour with benefits as per the current IBEW Local 1730 Collective Agreement                                     
Job Summary:
This position is responsible to operate, perform maintenance, repair and upkeep of the water and wastewater treatment facilities and wastewater collection lift stations.
Position Requirements:
  • Post Secondary Education in a related field preferred  or a minimum, a high school diploma is required.
  • Must have OIT Water & Wastewater Treatment Certification or the ability to obtain within six (3) months from the date of hire.
  • Operator must work towards obtaining a minimum class 2 certificate in both Water & Wastewater Treatment within 3 years and a class 3 Wastewater Treatment license within 4 years
  • Have and maintain a valid Class “G” driver’s license.
  • Previous experience operating Water & Wastewater Treatment Plants will be an asset
  • Fall arrest and confined space training, First Aid/CPR certification or ability to obtain.
  • Working knowledge of computers and Microsoft applications.
  • Must be competent under the Ontario Safe Drinking Water Act & Ontario Water Resources Act.
  • Must be competent under Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act.
  • Must be capable of understanding written and oral instruction.
  • Possess strong communication skills both written and oral.
  • Ability to read engineered drawings an asset.
  • Must be able to work outside in all weather conditions and must be available to work outside of normal work hours to assist in emergency situations.
  • Must be able to work weekends and after hours as part of the rotational on-call schedule.
